'theorectical evaluation of production' annabelle monks
Conventions are basically a set of guide-lines from other products that you can use to base your product upon. Throughout two years of creating products my use of conventions has improved and come a long way. The first project i did was the Childrens Film Opening. This was probably the most confusing task i had as it was the first one and harder to get my head around. During the childrens film we stuck to the conventions and did not challenge or question them at all. We repeated this attitude in our thriller, having a generic "stalker" theme. We did not challenge the conventions at all. This changed in my second year. We had to create a music video and we were given a song. Through extensive research we had to decide in ourselves what our genre was. We decided our band of the 'Anti-Social Burnt Outs' or 'ASBOs' were a very indi/punk band. We researched what kind of videos bands like ours had for their music. Most had a narrative of the main singer singing the lyrics to the camera, with regular intervals of the band actually playing the music on their instruments e.g drums, bass guitar, guitar. We stuck to these guidelines but we also challenged the conventions by adding comedy into our piece. We made the narrative quite comical with a police chase, we sped up the footage which gave it the feel of an old fashioned black and white film theme.
